Can I log on to a Domain Controller from a workgroup PC using XP Pro?

This hopefully is an easy one, although I couldn't find any answer here or anywhere else on the internet.

I need to be able to log on as a domain user from a PC that has not been joined to any domain.

The reason for this is because visitors need to be authenticated to the domain before they get internet access. This is our new web filtering appliance.

You do not need to authenticate to the Domain for IE access. You could always save the username and password in IE which is what I do at the company I work for. My laptop is not in the Domain but my username and password is saved in IE so I do not have to type it in all the time. It is simple to do, just tick the Save Password box when you type in the username and password.

To remove the password, go into the Control Panel, select User Accounts, click the Advanced tab, click Manage Passwords, and choose the proxy server name and select Remove. Obviously the password is not stored in clear text so it cannot be discovered via this route.
