I have Dell 4600C(slim case) computer with Windows XP. I need to transfer video from my Canon ZR65 to the PC. The information that I gathered from Canon instruction and on the internet are telling me that I have to have firewire.

I know my PC does not have firewire on it and am wondering if I can install it on that kind of computer. I have tried Dell online support but find no information for my case.

helpe, please. Thanks.

If you have a PCI slot that is empty you might be able to add a firewire PCI card. You can probably find these PCI cards for firewire online at or some other locations like Best Buy or office max.

I did not notice you said slim case. This might be just a little harder to find. Do a search on the internet for low profile PCI Cards if have a PCI slot. There may also be some kind of kit that convert Firewire to USB2.

A company called SIIG makes low profile 1394 PCI cards.

You have to find out if the PCI slots are regular height or they are Low Profile. If you have some other PCI Card around you could open it up and see if it looks like it will fit.

Thanks ceh4702. Your messages were very helpful. I am going to contact Dell to see if they would have a special firewire card to fit 4600C.

By the way, what is the "Low Profile Card"? Never heard that name before.

low profile simply means how physically 'tall' the card is. I doubt you'll encounter any issues w/ a Dell. For instance the PCI slot panel in the back will always cover the entire slot but the card affixed to it and attached to the motherboard may actually only be ~ 1/2 that width. ie like a modem or LAN card. In most cases I think you'll find a few PCI cards w/o issue, I think BB carries a Belkin one. Try looking near where the MP3s and IPODs are sold.
