I have this PC... (it's a UK gateway G6-400c) with a Celeron in it (P400..?)

I want to know my options if I have just purchased a game with a minimum spec of P600

Is a motherboard/processor upgrade a possibility? or will this burn out the poor old dog?

Thanks

With the low cost of upgrading mobo/cpu combo's these days it just isn't worth getting overdrive processors and things of the like.

Just my 2 cents though...

That PC could go to a 450MHZ max, but that wouldn't help. The power suppy is a 200 watt or less. It's not feasable to upgrade. By the time you change everything it probably wouldn't fit in the case anyway. You can get pretty good deals on used PC's at your local PC shop or from individuals in the newspaper.
You have two choices:
1) Return the game
2)Upgrade to a new (or used) PC. [smile]

Dude,
With the prices of systems nowadays best bet is to but a new one. Even if you get a MOBO/CPU comboe your still stuck with older components (ie slow CD probably small HD etc..
not to mention inadequate Power Supply) by the time you change all of these is the same as getting all of them in a new system.. as a matter of fact it would be a new system since you probably have to change the case also....

Time to get a new system*
Sell your old unit as a "going concern" it just isn't worth breaking it up to use a floppy or rom, you'll get more for it leaving it whole and selling it to someone who just wants an internet/word processing machine.
Make sure you new build has a dedicated graphics card and not built in, onboard.
Minumum Video card or BETTER
Geforce 4 MX440 DDR (must be DDR) or
Radeon 9000. Martin

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

It sounds like you'll probably need to buy the following if you decide to upgrade:

case w/ power supply (assuming the current case isn't adequate)
motherboard
cpu w/ heatsink and fan (retail boxed cpu's include those)
memory (your current memory won't work)
video card

I haven't looked up prices, but this would probably be $500+, assuming you aim for the current "low end". It's possible you could get by with built-in video on an nForce based motherboard, but that probably wouldn't make sense if this is for gaming.
