Can I get unamplified audio from onboard soundcard?

Hi,

My motherboard has 3 audio sockets labelled Mic, Line Out and Line In.

I want to connect the computer to an amplifier, however the Line Out socket is amplified and is designed for headphones or non-amplified speakers.

I can't find a jumper or BIOS setting to turn the socket into a proper unamplified Line Out - am I missing something or is there a way to do it? At worst, is there a connector I can buy to go between the computer and the amp to alter the signal to make it unamplified?

If it makes any difference the motherboard is an Asus A7V8MX-SE.

Thanks

- Andy

Hi,

I spoke to a guy who said that if I plug a Phono Line Level Attenuator (6dB) on the end of each phono plug then that should do the trick so I'll see if I can get hold of a pair.

Hi ndy;
Scanned the posts in this thread..I think the prob you're having is understanding that your Amp is NOT just a Power Amp...It also has a built in Pre-Amp..You should have a Line-in on the Amp which will bypass the preamp stage. If you don't have line in or Aux. in , there's the prob. 1 sys I have has onboard sound and when I line out Directly to my NEC 200watter Power Amp - I can't get enough volume at all (signal is not "pre-amped")..when I go Line out into Preamp, and preamp hooked to Power Amp -then it kicks. Maybe your Yamaha is inadvertantly using Bridged mode?

One other quick thought - some setting within the PC is boosting the signal to the onboard sound. Check all the Multi-media properties, and the Ahdio Codecs and make sure that the wrong one isn't "mapping" thru a wrong device, and inadvertantl;y picking up an unintentional boost.
