Can I format>format LUNs?

I have RAID Manager 6.22 loaded on Solaris 9 (V480) w/ StorEdge A1000. When I
tried to format LUN 0, it yells at me with this:

format> format
Ready to format. Formatting cannot be interrupted
and takes 46 minutes (estimated). Continue? y
Beginning format. The current time is Mon Feb 6 11:42:44 2006

Format failed

Retry of formatting operation without any of the standard
mode selects and ignoring disk's Grown Defects list. The
disk may be able to be reformatted this way if an earlier
formatting operation was interrupted by a power failure or
SCSI bus reset. The Grown Defects list will be recreated
by format verification and surface analysis.

Retry format without mode selects and Grown Defects list? y

The "format>format" is for SCSI disk low level format utility, it use to mark defect block...

The "lun" is virtual disk, of course you can't low level format it.
