can I do this with DNS or do I have to use host files?

We have an accounting machine that resides in our main office, I was accessing this machine from the ip 10.1.1.10. We need to change the way we access this to the name of the machine (accounting1). My local ip's are 192.168.1.* I can set up a host file and get it to work, but if I could do this with DNS that would be better. I have tried setting up cnames, secondary dns zones and just cant seem to get it working.

I found more info and got it working right after posting this.

accounting1 IN A 10.1.1.10

Although I had tried the exact same thing before and it didnt work. It seems to be working now.
