I have some users that have created linked spreadsheets involving network mappings. It is necessary to remap them backwards (IE. from a subdirectory of "main" to "main" itself so that they can see more directories at the same heirarchical level as the subdirectory). Because their spreadsheets use mapped references, they are rendered useless unless we open each sheet and browse to the new data source. A resave would save them with a new mapped reference that would be correct for that new mapping but it would again be a problem if their mapping ever changed again. Even if their mapping were to remain the same and I mapped a differnt letter to the parent directory, there would still be a problem (and is a problem now) with sharing these files with others who don't map the same drive letters to the same directories.
There is a way to tell Microsoft Word in the registry to always use UNC references. (As follows:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Word\Options]"DontUseUNC"=dword:00000001)
Is there a way to have Excel use this also? If I could change this setting and then have the users open the existing sheets en masse and save them with UNC references, then I could remap them and all would be fine in the world. EXCEL 97 SR-2
Any ideas?
