Can Exchange drop email in to a folder on another server?

It's kind of intresting but, we're trying to get an app built which would take an email with attachment and strip the attachment and drop it into a folder on the file server. Is it possible for exchange to just drop the email and attachment into the folder directly? The company wanted to do it using public folders but I feel that they would start using Exchange as a file repository. Thanks for the help.
