Hello all, I am just about done with my server setup and I installed an instance, as per the white papers that microsoft provided, of sharepoint 3.0. I can already see that this version is less cluttered and more easy to use.

But now, when accessed still goes to SharePoint 2.0. Which I dont plan on using, ever. Is there a way to have the link point to SharePoint 3.0?

Thanks
server is at home.fhvac.org

Well it is running side by side, but is it accessible with RWW?

Well, you can make it accessible with RWW, but remember the Welcome to Small Business Server page is not RWW.

Also, I'd wait until you get a much better handle on your server and the SBS enviornment and WSS 3.0 is integrated a bit more before attempting this.

Is there any chance that Microsoft will add remote access for SharePoint 3.0. Like they have with companyweb? I find it to be a very useful tool, but only when we are in the office. I think it would be great remotely.

Y'know... I hadn't actually posted the links for how to install WSS 3.0 on an SBS, thinking that you may not have seen those... and when I went to go grab them I noticed that they also had an article on how to view Companyweb within WSS 3.0:

Use this for installation though:

Well these instructions are to setup a way to view companyweb WSS 2.0 items in WSS 3.0.

I actually dont want to use WSS 2.0 anymore, so ill just leave it alone, what I would like to do is when I click companyweb have it open WSS 3.0. But i dont guess that is supported, hopefully they will come up with a solution soon. It almost seems like a waste of time to do anything on WSS 3.0 till they get this working.

My method of letting people use WSS 3.0 is having a login script add the icon to their desktop that points to WSS 3.0.

Its good for now, but for us to truly appreicate the powerfulness of WSS 3.0 it would be great if we could access it remotley, without logging in to a computer first.

Thanks for your help.

I think you're missing the point of that... you would still need to keep WSS 2.0 installed if you use, for instance, the Fax Document Library. But you could create an entirely new site and just use the page viewer web part for those things which you can't convert over yet.

So, you would just deploy something like for the WSS 3.0 site which can easily be used locally. I don't know off-hand how to modify the links on the RWW Main Menu.

But if you truly want an integrated install, I did come upon this blog post which describes how to do it with a full, clean OS install.

was there supposed to be a link to a blog?

Perhaps in the future mircosoft will address these issues.
