Any books that will lead me through creating an application using SQL Server from the ground up. I am currently working on my SQL server certification but feel I need more practical experience if I am to have any chance of remembering the syntax of all the commands.

IMHO I think you could check out some multimedia training courses. They do the trick for me. I think the material sinks in faster, more thoroughly and watching the presentation takes less time than reading a book.

I have learned all my information from different online sources. I have a few reference books, but there is so much you can learn...that is free...just from online sources.

I like:

<--obviously
&
SQL Server Books Online

I am all about free! I also use groups.google.com extensively for specific troubleshooting. It mostly depends on how you learn.

Books I own:

SAMs TEach yourself SQL Server 2000 in 21 days (basic reference)

Que: SQL Server 2000 Programming

Although I don't own any I plan on purchasing sever wrox SQL Server books. I own several other wrox books and love them.
