Can a batch file prompted for Input

I am wondering if a batch file on a XP Pro system when ran can prompted for input. I would like to try and have only 1 batch file that can be used with different variables instead of serveral batch files with almost identical settings except for this variable.

I know i can use the Start->Run with the "batch variable" just wondering if the batch can prompted the user without using the Start->Run cmd..
