Does anybody have any ideas about CAMA and SS7 trunks for E911. I currently have an option 11 that is a remote node off of a Mitel sx2000. I also have 3 other Mitels that are nodes to the main mitel system but and they all work fine for passing DID. i am being told that there is no way for the nortel to pass the correct DID to the mitel and that we need to find another solutin so that the correct DID is outpulsed instead of just a building ID. so i really have 2 questions

1. CAMA and SS7 trunks (a PRI seems to be overkill), is this a good way to correct the issue and what are the requirements for their use

2. Is there a way to pass the proper DIDs between the nortel and mitel.

Please let me know if i need to clarify anything. I would greatly appreciate any help anybody can offer.

you can do it with cama trunks if your provider can demark them.. then your pri back to the tdm will request the ss7 for the right clid.. and your right, it's a no brainer with qsig and pri.. depending on the traffic and switch size that may be 2-300 per month more then a single cama trunk.. what would be the down side of adding a single analog ground start at the opt 11 site, and just send 911 calls out on it.. that would not require any special software, the provider could do the ss7 the same as any local 1fb

Thank you John, I asked the providor about CAMA trunks and they had no idea what i was talking about. I am currently looking for a new providor for the cama trunks, do you or anybody know of a website where i can simply pull up a list of providors based on city or zip code, kind of an odd question but would be very handy for now and future.

CAMA is ancient technology (hah) so you'll have to dig around until you find someone who knows what you're talking about. Probably need to get the CAMA trunks from the DID provider for the location.

SS7 trunks are usually DS1 or higher, and comparatively expensive. I've only seen SS7 trunking between customer and carrier for very very large switches, usually with DS3 or higher quantity of trunks.

What kind of trunks are between the opt11 and the mitel? I'd first go with seeing if that could be upgraded to provide full 10 digit CPN from the 11 outward accross that network. Next I'd go with John's suggestion of an analog port that is location specific.

Last site I did CAMA we were required by the state to have two trunks per switch for e911, and they ran something like $150/trunk. At that price, a PRI was only a couple bucks more, and you got a whole lot more bang for you buck.

Thanks, we are looking at PRI as well and i was counting on needing 2 CAMA trunks, but no matter what i do it will cost more than i care to spend. We currently hava a T-1 connecting the 2 which i know wont pass DID but the folks who set up the site originally are telling me that no matter what connection we use we will not be able to pass the DID between the 2. Unfortunatly i have no experience with mitel and am still not as sharp with nortel as i would like to be. Thanks, i truely appreciate any advice i can get.

Unfortunately, i have exposure to the Mitel, but not enough knowledge to be helpful. I would think that PRI/QSIG between the two would solve the problem, but others 'in the know' will have to advise on that one.

Let us know where you land!
