I have the following type of system: G3 Version: V5 Maximum Ports: 2000

I would like to know if I can have caller ID for my system, and How do I install it?

Thanks for your help.

The board that is needed for this is a TN793 (B). What you would have to do is wire an analog station off one of these ports and program it in the switch as Call-id as the set type. I am not sure of the minimum vintage of software required to support these packs. Be sure to get at least a V6 as a minimum vintage of this circuit pack, as the earlier versions had problems.

Will that provide CID for the whole switch.....Will I need to contact our local and longdistance provider for them to do anything?

I believe that Mike was giving you instructions for the PBX to provide CallerID to an analog station port on your PBX.

If you aren't currently receiving CallerID of outside callers on digital sets with displays, then you have to get trunking to the outside world that is CallerID capable. The 'best' way to do that is with PRI trunks to your carriers. Unfortunately, I'm not a definity 'expert', so someone else will have to tell you if V5 supports PRI. There is also the possibility that you could get callerID over loopstart trunks, but that would probably require a special trunk card, and most people recommend NOT using loopstart trunks on a PBX.

By the way, to get Caller ID working on TN2793B, you need software version 8 and higher. And TN2793B has appeared a few years later than V5 software so I think TN2793B doesn't work in V5.
