I've been handed a wonderful opportunity to handle the phone system for 7 dealerships. I work in the parts, but have a background in computers so they felt that was enough to do the job. So that is an idea of my knowledge. Here is the question... One of our dealerships doesn't seem to have caller ID enabled when customers call. All you see is Verizon on the display. In order to turn on Caller ID do I need to have Verizon enable it on the trunk or can that be enabled on the card in the PBX(change trunk-group 1)?

Need a little more info on this...What type of switch are you running...software? What type of trunking?

Definity G3csiV13... Can you give an example of type of trunking?

Trunking examples: Loop start analog, ground-start analog, ISDN PRI, etc

call Verizon on Monday and ask them if they are sending caller id. once they send it through, you can make it happen in the switch.
btw, congrats on the new responsibilities. you never know where it might take you.

here's some links to get you started.
Basic Admin - Advanced Admin - Admin Guide - Maintenance Manual - Hardware Guide - Overview - Main Document Page for that particular switch -
all these links are particular to that G3csi v13. the first two links are the important ones. if you gain all the knowledge in those, you're better than many system admins running around.

when you have a question about any of the other systems under your control now, just throw them up on the boards. we'll help you the best we can. there are some real bright crayons around here.

If it's a PRI...you really don't have anything to "turn on" in the switch to see caller-id it should be there if Verizon is sending it...I would do what pbxtech said and give them a call on Monday and see if they are sending it....if the d-channel is up and all b-channels are working as they should be you should see it if they are sending it....

Good Luck

Thanks to one and all! Boy are you going to regret offering your help!!! LOL!
