QUESTION: How can I get my external MT5634ZBA MultiTech modem to work properly on a Dell 6300 running SCO OpenServer Enterprise 5.05? I need to utilize the modem's
CALLBACK feature, but currently I cannot even dial in. Dial
out works fine using the atdial192 dialer. I tried to use
a different one as suggested by MultiTech in their 'technical document' 14311.txt but it caused messages
such as 'getty respawing too frequently' so I reinstated
the atdial192. SCO points the finger at MultiTech and vicea
versa. There are some 100 or more multitech dialers in the
/usr/lib/uucp/default directory on my machine, however none
seem to be usable for this modem. HELP.
Thanks Barry Shadduck (517) 335-3890 ShadduckB@state.mi.us

If you're having trouble dialing in, it's possible the modem isn't set to auto-answer (S-register zero). 'cu' to the modem and enter:

ats0=2
at&w

(You may not see any reply or even the text you enter depending on the modem configuration.)

This sets it to pick up calls on second ring and tthen saves the change.

AFAIK, the dialer scripts will only be used on outgoing calls, so this should solve your problem.
HTH.

Thanks. I'll reset s0 from 1 to 2. I was under the
impression that dialers are used to initialize the modem whether outgoing or incoming.

Will let you know how this turns out.
Again thanks for responding.
