I have a Definity G3 switch. I was told by an outside contractor that runs our Call Accounting System, that our switch "IS NOT SENDING ANY CALL DETAIL RECORDS OF INTERNAL CALLS." I already looked through the FAQ's and I didn't notice anything directly referring to how to setup the CDR for the Definity switch. Could someone possibly inform me as to what hardware I will need, as well as, the translations to get this thing up and running?

Your contractor seems to be making a specific statement regarding CDR for "internal" calls. If you are looking for CDR for station to station calling within your switch you need to add the stations you want CDR for by issuing the "CHANGE INTRA-SWITCH-CDR <ext>". To see what CDR options are in effect for your switch, do a "DISPLAY SYSTEM CDR" command.

I was interested in monitoring a certain extension. So if I go into "CHANGE INTRA-SWITCH-CDR <ext>", how would I monitor the calls coming into that extension.

Once you add an extension to the Intra-Switch CDR list, then the information for that extension will be passed to your CDR.

Once the information is passed to the CDR, how would I view the information?

Through your current Call Accounting Software. Adding the extensions to the Intra-Switch CDR record allows the extension information to be passed to your CAS.

Everyone's posts have been very helpful, and I thank you all for the help. I just checked our CAS system but it seems as though that is not polling correctly. GO FIGURE!!! I will continue to monitor CAS until it is working properly and hopefully it will log the extensions I am monitoring.

Thank You for your help......

Is the Definity feeding directly into the CAS or are you using a buffer box (PollCat, etc.)? It's possible for the buffer boxes to strip records that don't meet the length requirements. You can hang a PC running emulator on the CDR port and watch the call records coming out of the switch (or add a 2nd CDR port for monitoring).

No, we are actually using a buffer box. How will I know which port is the CDR port. Would I use hyper-terminal from the PC?

HyperTerm will work. Set the speed to the same as the CDR port. Do a 'display system cdr' to find the port & speed.
