Greetings-

E2K3 sp1 on W2K3; Clients using Outlook 2003 sp1

Using the reg entry to force the Cached Exchange Mode clients to use the GAL instead of the Offline Address Book.
HOWEVER, if the user does a Send/Receive, it recreates the OAB files on the client. This effectively negates the reg entry. Hmmm....

Thanx

It uses the re-created OABs when doing subsequent lookups.

This is a pretty big show-stopper for using Cached Exchange Mode for all users, considering that the only way to get updated GAL info is to update the Default Offline Address Book on the server frequently and also have the users download the updated versions frequently, causing increased network traffic, more than by just using the GAL.

Unless, of course, there's a way to supress the recreation of the OAB files...

Greetings-

The work culture here is such that during certain times of the year there are changes to AD multiple times per day. And when my bosses want to send something to the "New Guy" right away and can't find his name in the GAL...well, it's something I'd like to avoid.

Anyways, as this solution is published by Microsoft, I hoped that my discovery was only part of the picture, that I was missing a small, yet significant, detail that would enable me to use this method for my organization...

Thanx
