I was told there was a cabinet alarm on one our systems (on the left of the top cap grill on an Option 61C running Succession 4.0). In LD 32 it appears there are commands which allow you to clear alarms (maybe only minor ones), but I do not see any that might explain what caused the alarm. As the system is remote to us, is there a way via software that I could get to what caused the alarm and determine whether the condition is still an issue?

this will print history file and you can look for the alarm in this file.

I checked the history file first. Nothing. The issue is I have no idea when the alarm started showing on the system (it is possible that much time has passed between when it registered as an alarm and when someone actually noticed the cabinet alarm).

Yes, that is possible. A column alarm indicates a power related problem. Use "STAT XSM" in LD 37. This will identify a power related problem.
