Recently I have started getting a error message right after a user logs on. The error states that a filed named program is in the C:\ directory and may cause problems with applications. It gives me the option to automatically rename it or ignore it. When I choose rename, it renames the file to program1...and keeps renaming the files in a number sequence for example program1, program2..etc.. I have viewed the contents of the file with notepad, and they are blank files. The files do not have a file extension and are not associated with any programs. I have performed a scandisk with both scandisk options selected, for a thorough scan. I have updated my virus scanner and performed a full system scan, and I have scanned the files by themselves, and no virus was detected. When I delete the file and reboot it is automatically replaced. I also have scanned the drive with Ad-Aware, and it hasn't been detected with it.

Has anybody had a problem with this before? Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

What Startup programs are you loading is something from them loading this file?

If it is being recreated by Windows File Protections there may be some corruption somewhere.

Some general things to try.

Check the Event Viewer for any errors.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

I got rid of the problem. I think it was the Kodak easyshare software that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it and the file no longer shows in the C:\ directory. I no longer get the error after log on.

Thanks for you input!
