Question, I know its possible to go in and manually edit button label text inside of Site Administrator, which is great, but is there a way to make a 'button label template' that only ONE extensions uses?

IE, I have an extension that has list 1 set as "personal", then numbers specific to that extension in that list, that way I can dole out...

abrv-dial 1 04 Login
abrv-dial 1 05 Logout
abrv-dial 1 06 Call X Person
abrv-dial 1 07 Call Y Person
abrv-dial 1 08 Call Z Person

So forth. In Site Administrators button template, I want, JUST for that extension...

abrv-dial 1 06 to read X-person's Name
abrv-dial 1 07 to read Y-person's Name
abrv-dial 1 08 to read Z-person's Name

Because they're assigned to Soft-buttons on a 6408D+

All they see when they hit "menu" id "ADL01 ADL02 ADL03 ADL04 ..." etc, which is useless, the common response I get, is, quite simply "The he** is an ADL01?"

However, the way it is now, there's other Personal dialing lists in list 1 (personal) with dialcodes 6/7/8 that aren't these exact same numbers, yet it tries to propigate it across the board for all extensions...I just need to customize the buttons/softkeys for this extension only.

Cannot be done? Thanks in advance, if it helps, I'm using a G3r/S8700 Setup with CM2.1.1

The labels for the softbuttons on a 64xx set are progammed on the set itself; you cannot do this from ASA.

Thats what I thought, but how is this done? I could see how to do it on my 2410 set, but the 6408D+ set, for the moment, its completely eluding me.

After looking through one of the 6408D+ manuals I have on hand, I don't see a way to manually program the soft-key appearance at the handset itself.

It seems to definately pull from the switch, but since these personal dialing lists change from phone to phone, I can't have a single label for List 1 DC 04 be "Dial Voicemail" on one phone, when List 1 DC 04 is something like "dial x user" offsite on another, both end up displaying "Dial Voicemail"

How bothersome...

You need to add to the phone the "PROG" button. I make this the last soft-button.

From the phone set: Press the PROG button. The prompt "Press button to program" will be displayed. Press the autodial button you need to program. The prompt "Change Number? Yes=1 No=2" will appear. Change/add the number you want the button to autodial. Press the # sign when done. The second prompt "Change Label? Yes=1 No=2" now appears. Type the button label in. You are limited to 5 characters on the label. Use the keypad to enter the letters of the label, like you do with your cell phone address book.

You can only change buttons that have been set in ASA as autodial or personal abbreviated dial.

Hmm, no PROG button in my version it seems (abr-prog, yes, but thats to program the Abreviated dial list iirc).

I think I'm just at the mercy of older software and non-24xx phonesets at the moment. (we can get any of the 24xx to program buttons individually, but its a function of the menu-interface on the phones itself, this isn't working period with the 6408D+'s, so in general, we've avoided using the soft-buttons until now).

I tried to use a station template to label the buttons, going to go see if that worked now. If it didn't, well, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Thanks for the input anyhow!

My mistake, the button that you need IS ABR-PROG. The button is displayed as PROG on the phone screen.

Oh hey, this worked! I didn't realize you could set labels by programming locally with abr-prog(thought it just was a list select feature)

Thanks a bunch!
