I have a remote site that has occassional problems with the LEC / last mile copper connection, and I want to put in place a failover configuration that would use cable internet as a backup connection. I would like that cable internet connection to access the Microsoft VPN that I have in place for my remote users. If my primary T1 fails I would like the router to automatically failover to the cable internet connection and connect to the VPN (via the internet) I have at my corporate location.

I currently have a VPN/PRN full T1 connection in place from my network provider connecting my 3640 here to a 2620XM on the far end remote site. That PRN connection provides my remote users full access to all systems and services here at my corporate location and internet access. The links look like this 2620XM (remote site) <---> Qwest PRN T1 pipe <---> Cisco 3640 @ corporate office <---> PIX <---> 4006 switch internal distribution <---> 2620XM to internet.

One of the challenges in attempting to take out the dependence on the LEC and that last mile of copper at the remote site is really on my end (I can't get cable internet service here without a $10,000 fee to get cable to our corporate building). So I am looking to get some failover configuration and alternate connection on my remote end. I don't have such last mile issues at my corporate end and I have multiple T1 acccess lines running to the internet from here.

Is it possible to configure the 2620XM at the remote site to connect via the coax access line and over the internet to my VPN service at my corporate location? I realize that I may need to put a firewall in place at the remote end. HELP - I am open to suggestions and ideas.
