Hi all,

I am trying to build a dummy domain, but I run into issues, below is what I did so please help me.

1. from run --> dcpromo --> next -->then I got the message saying "the TCP/IP networking protocal must be properly configured in order to proceed. Complete the configuration"

Please advise what I need to do.

If you don't have a NIC card or your IP address is not configure then you might want to check into that. I have experience the same problem without installing a NIC card or plug into the network.

don't know why it worked the first time. I just rebuild the whole laptop again then I have this issue.

this laptop is IBM and it already had build in NIC card, the laptop default windows XP but I installed windows 2003 on there and I am not sure it still had NIC card.

how do you guys do it out there?

felix is right, your NIC needs to have an IP address configured

from www.petri.co.il:
Here is a quick list of what you must have:

An NTFS partition with enough free space

An Administrator's username and password

The correct operating system version

A NIC

Properly configured TCP/IP (IP address, subnet mask and - optional - default gateway)

A network connection (to a hub or to another computer via a crossover cable)

An operational DNS server (which can be installed on the DC itself)

A Domain name that you want to use

The Windows Server 2003 CD media (or at least the i386 folder)

Brains (recommended, not required...)
