Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong, it is the same config on the other side but the IP addresses etc. are reveresed! its is doing my head in!

Thanks alot, Ramsey

Has the circuit defintely been presented as X.21? I have done several jobs where the physical presentation was ordered incorrectly with BT. You get the options of E1 (either G.703/4 BNC coax or RJ45) or X.21 (15-pin D connector). Check with BT....

Does the blackbox have the other IP address on it, or does BT at their end? If they do, they would have to have ppp encapsulation as well.

Burt

the other end is our other building where the line terminates (the b-end) same kit on that side, black box convertor and a cisco 2620 router with encaps being ppp.

does bt provide the clocking on the line? i noticed there are lots of input errors on either side..

Cheers, Ramsey

It would not hurt anything to put a clock on both interfaces. That would definitely cause the line protocol to not come up.
Since you say that the black box converts the RJ45 into a DTE serial to plug into your serial port, that ells me that the router is the DCE end---I assume it is the same on the 2620 in the other building? If so, the clock rate needs to be applied to the DCE interface.

Burt

You should provide a clock at one end of the link and use 'receive clock' at the other end. There should be a switch for this on the Blackbox converters - maybe Master & Slave?
You shouldn't clock both ends since they will slip every so often. You should leave the default clocking on the routers - i.e. use the receive clock from the DCE's.

hi, i tired all this but still get no joy in bringing the line up. i belive BT set the clock on the line though, so dont need the master/slave?!?
