Background:
1 PDC and 3 BDCs in a single domain with 1 Class "C" address. We were running out of addresses so we re-addressed the network to a Class "B" internal scheme. The PDC is running WINS and DHCP for all our workstations. All the servers have static IP addresses that do not conflict with anyone. (excluded) 1 of our BDCs is acting fine, but it is also the only one that is dual-honed and still has one NIC on the old addressing scheme.

The other 2 BDCs cannot run User Mgr for Domains or Server Mgr because we are told they can't find the PDC. Yesterday, I rebuilt 1 of them into a Member server because I never understood the reason for having that many BDCs to begin with.

Problem:
Users can browse the 2 problem servers through network neighborhood, but the servers still cannot browse the network through it. On the server I rebuilt, I can ping any server or workstation by name or IP but I still can't get a server list in Network Neighborhood.

I'm beginning to suspect that the problem lies with the Master Browser (PDC) but I'm not sure what to do. I've stopped and started the service, pulled the servers out of Server Mgr and added them back in. I'm at my wit's end here!

Sorry this is so long, I'm trying to be as complete as I can. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

HI!

It seems like a WINS problem.

Here are my tips:

1) Check that all servers are configured with the new IP of the WINS server.
2) Check that all clients are configured with new IP for WINS - This should be configured with the DHCP options, and then verifed using WINIPCFG or IPCONFIG on the workstations.
3) Try to delete all the WINS database entries using the WINS manager or by renaming the WINS.MDB on the server when WINS is stopped.

Bye
