I have Athlon 800mhz, 256Mb PC100 Ram, 10gb free hard drive space and an ISDN connection. On my Win98 Laptop dial up and yahoo page takes less that 2 seconds to load. On my WIN2000 professional with specs above, it takes approx 30 seconds to finally load my start page. It also pauses or makes graphics blury while loading and sometimes the mouse completely dissappears until the page it loaded. I am running the latest McAfee Anti-Virus software. Any suggestions greatly appreciated as it is very frustrating to have a semi-fast connection and the computer not allow you to take advantage of it. Keith Buchanan

A "beta," or test version of IE 6, Microsoft's browser-in-progress, is meant to be in the hands of a few testers who have signed nondisclosure agreements. But the browser has been posted on The-Ctrl-Alt-Del.com and FileClicks, software enthusiast sites with reviews and downloads.

Those sites became inaccessible shortly after CNET News.com posted news of them Monday afternoon. The-Ctrl-Alt-Del.com said it had pulled the files when it learned that Microsoft was investigating the leak, and that its hosting provider simultaneously pulled the site because of the volume of traffic. FileClicks could not immediately be reached for comment.

Microsoft said earlier Monday that it was investigating the leak and that it would try to have the software removed from the sites.

"There was a (test version) that was sent to beta testers in November under (nondisclosure agreements), and this is obviously a breach of that in some respect," a company representative said. "We will look into it."

November's sneak peek was an attempt to solicit feedback from selected software developers. The company has yet to schedule a public beta.

Yea, beta versions can have issues. But as long as one knows how to handle those issues the beta software can be made to run smoothly. MS had a public preview of IE6 on its update site a few months back. Official beta copies (as you stated) were only released to a few beta testers. James Collins

My own experience would lead to a shaky video card driver/or hardware. I had a brandname card but the driver was crap... even though it was Win2K certified. Turns out the hardware was crap too.. I found that out by installing a Flat screen LCD monitor and watching the screen show triple outlines of everything.. weak signal and lousy clocking was the culprit. The *old* Voodoo3000 on the 98 box worked better :)

Okay here is the scoop, I am a certified MS reseller, I periodically DO run BETA software and if I have probs I uninstall. I am familiar with BETA and the browser is not the problem. Nuff said about BETA!

All the drivers ARE OK - re-verified earlier today.

Followed my gut and took the time to uninstall McAfee as hmunster mentioned that he had probs with McAfee as well. Everything flies and is fast as lightning without McAfee.

I do need a good anti-virus program and would like to use the McAfee (since its paid for already) any suggestions on succesful tweaking to remedy this prob?

Thanks,
