I have Athlon 800mhz, 256Mb PC100 Ram, 10gb free hard drive space and an ISDN connection. On my Win98 Laptop dial up and yahoo page takes less that 2 seconds to load. On my WIN2000 professional with specs above, it takes approx 30 seconds to finally load my start page. It also pauses or makes graphics blury while loading and sometimes the mouse completely dissappears until the page it loaded. I am running the latest McAfee Anti-Virus software. Any suggestions greatly appreciated as it is very frustrating to have a semi-fast connection and the computer not allow you to take advantage of it. Keith Buchanan

Flush your history and check the fragmentation of your disk drive.

Also check the performance options on your Win2K machine. Make sure that it is optimized for use with Applications and NOT Background services. What is your Swap File set to? James Collins

System is optimized for APPLICATIONS with a SWAP FILE SIZE OF 600mb, 32Mb Geoforce2 AGP Video Card with current drivers.

Even for instance while double clicking on MY COMPUTER the thing takes days (i.e. 30+ Seconds) to finally open the window showing the drives.

Already flushed HISTORY, all TEMP FILES, closed all open apps except for UPS, and McAFEE, defraged hard drive, ran full chkdsk.

Any more clues???? Keith Buchanan

Using NTFS, I also noted that if I finally get something open the first time, (i.e. open MY COMPUTER) then each time after that is opens much quicker but still slower than it should. Keith Buchanan

Do you have it set for compression? Open my Computer and right click on the C: drive and go to properties. At the bottom it states "Compress Drive to Save Dsik Space". Ensure it is not checked. James Collins

How about this -

Start the task manager or system monitor then start IE. Watch and see where the bottleneck is (CPU/Memory/elsewhere).

Bill.

I had to lose McAfee for this very reason. I am now using CA's free virus scanner offering and the problem is gone. HOWEVER... it sounds to me like you may be experiencing a video card or driver issue, more likely the card.

Is this machine on a network? If so, does it display the same symptoms when your logged on locally? Try removing one share at a time and check speed.

As maveric suggested you should also try updating your browser. As I stated it could be a service. Do you mess with them? Can you tell me which ones are running? James Collins

Your services look ok with the exception of 1
"Distributed Transaction Coordinator"
Start that service and see if it helps. Then let us know James Collins
