Setup: Windows 2000 server running Brightstor v9.01 and Exchange Agent

Exchange Server 2000

Need to do bricklevel backup.

I have been running bricklevel backups for awhile but it has stopped working recently. Arcserve freezes every time I try to look at the list of mailboxes. I tried loading the latest service pack for Brightstor (v9.01 sp1?) but no change.

I went to the exchange server and tried to run the exchange agent configuration but it won't get past the username/password portion, even though the username/password hasn't changed.

Any ideas on what to check for next?

HI,

Configuring Exchange Agent for Exchange 2000 faq861-2675

Well the bricklevel backup was working a few days ago so you would think it wasn't a setup problem but I double checked it with the FAQ.

The only things that were different were:

-dbagent account was a local admin but not a power user.
-dbagent account had an exchange admin role, not an exchange full admin role

also, the account name wasn't the same as the alias name. not sure if that matters. meaning the logon name is dbagent but the alias is dagent.

IH,

When you run the agent config..
what does it return?

"Failed to configure your server" ??? or "failed to Authenticate" ??

if it is the first message.. can u paste the contents of the exchverify.log from the exchange server?

failed to authenticate the account

HI,

" Failed to authenticate" simple means that the account you have logged in as does not have proper privileges..

If the account is dbagent..

login to the exchange server as dbagent.. and try the config.

Make sure this account has proper group memberships and permissions..

if the exhcange server is not a DC
add the dbagent account to the local admins group of the exchange server..

when I log onto the exchange server as dbagent and then run the exchange config, it authenticates dbagent okay.

when I go to the Brightstor app on the other server and try to open the exchange server bricklevel section, it still freezes the whole app.

what else should I check for?

Hi,

What the "Backup Agent RPC service" starting with?
If it is set to log on as "system account" make it start with "dbagent"

keep us posted..

Interesting...

Changing that made it work.

Not sure why it worked before.

Thanks for the help.
