Hi All

Having read heaps of web pages and group messages, I am beginning to think that I am the only one with a Windows 2000 server that is stand-alone, ie no Active Directory. Does the AD restore have the same implications for a non-AD enabled system? ie even though we don't use AD, in order to restore the system state do we need to use the AD options in Brightstor Arcserve ?

cheers
Tony

I'm really not the one to say because I'm more of a hardware guy and don't get into this type of stuff, but since on one else is coming forth for what it is worth here is my perspective.

First by a long shot you are not the only one not using Active Directory. My guess is that there is so much stuff on AD because of the additional problems that go along with it.

As far as I know you go for the System State and don't have to worrry about the AD stuff.

Hi All

In the end we blew the whole damn thing away and reinstalled from scratch. ArcServe Brightstor backup, despite being apparently backed-up cannot be restored. The manuals clearly tell you over 10 chapters how to backup, and do not mention, not once, how to actually restore. The help files suck, the support is only via paid service and generally it was a wasted effort trying to restore the system state. There has to be more to this, but I don't have a heap of hours to try and figure it out. All the stuff I read suggests it should be possible, but no-one, not anywhere, has any step by step instructions on making a restore work.

If you are looking at this and have a need to restore, my recommendation is stop looking and start with a clean system, reinstall everything and use a ghost-style app to image the system.

cheers
Tony
