Hello,
Has anybody worked with the BS SRM option for AS?

Does it have to be installed on the server where BS is installed today or can you just install it on your management console?

I have read a bit about it on the web and I can't say that I'm overly impressed by this software. Yeah, you can print out some reports in different formats to impress your boss but "Centralizing backup operation management" is a joke, you could do that from the console if you install it on your PC.
Input would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

I have looked at but not played around with BSRM and have to agree that it is more of a work in progress. Word is that there are upgrades on the way that clean a lot of that up. CA is coming out with a lot of betas for the BrightStor line so you might want to see if BSRM is on the list and try it out.

first, it's not an option for AS but a independent component.

it doesn't have to install on the same machine with AS. actually, I won't suggest you install them on the same machine even they can.

there're two components of SRM: Applications Server (AS) and Windows Client. you have to meet the software requirement for AS - refer to its readme. for Windows Client, you may almost install it on any supported platform,ie. Win2000 Pro, XP, Server, etc.

ARCserve is just one of the objects that SRM can manage. there're also much other info it can collect and analyse. storage resouce management is far more than "Centralizing backup operation management".
