Hi all

I have BE 9.1 and has been working fine for me for a while. But now when I try to do a brick level backup and select the server and click on microsoft exchange mailboxes it just hangs the application. I have left this running like this for a while but no joy. I have followed the veritas document word to word on doing a brick level back up but it does not seem to work.

If you need more info on my set up then please do ask.

Any suggestions.

Thanks for your help in advance.

F.

I use the same application and can successfully do a Store and Brick level backup. I believe the account you run BE under must have the send as/receive as rights to each mailbox you wish to backup. Check your permission level.

which account do you want me to check the email account that be uses or the NT account that it uses.

I would check the permission of the account that runs the backup job. In my environment, we use a separare account for backups. In BE 9.1 console, when you select the mailbox option, can you drill down the list and see the individual mailboxes listed?
It is strange that it was working hen stooped? Is this correct?
Also check to see if the backup account is also a member of the local servers Admin group.

No, it has never worked with brick level. This is the first time I am trying. Yes the account is a local admin of the server running backup and also of the exchange server.

When I try to drill down to indicidual mailboxes on the exchange server I get the following message " an error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of \\Servername\microsoft exchange mailboxes. the logon account you specified must correspond to a unique mailbox.". I know for sure that the logon account has a unique mailbox assigned to it. I have even tried differnt admin accounts.

Any other suggestions please.

As far as I know with Backup Exec, Admin is not unique if Admin01 exists, but Admin01 is unique if Admin exists. i.e. it only check uniqueness up to the length of the account name specified

The uniqueness pertains to accounts that are in your GAL. Your best be would be to come up with something that has nothing close to it, such as backup (account).

Backup exec determines uniqueness for the first 5 characters of the mailbox.

So having 2 mailboxes, one named admin, the other admin01 would not be unique.

Easy way to check uniqueness is to open a new message in Outlook, type in the first 5 characters, then press Ctrl-K - if it resolves to 1 address you are fine, if you get a pop-up listing a number of different recipients, then it is not unique.

Hi guys

Thanks for your help so far. The account that I am using is as unique as it can get. I have done the ctrl-K and it does not resolve any other names.

I have also tried differnt accounts but still no luck.
