Hi, today my boss was setting up the new computer for his office and found that he could not share a folder on it. The account he was using has full administrator access to the Network, and the computer is a member of the domain. He has proper access on his old computer but not the new one and when I had him log onto my computer he likewise had no administrator access. All the machines in question are WinXP machines and we are on a Domain with all 2000 servers. Any ideas?

Is he logging onto the domain? Or locally? If he is logging onto the domain, ensure the local Administrator's group includes his domain account.

Just some clarification:

- your boss is logging into his domain account (i.e. not a local account)?

- your boss' domain account is a member of the domain admin's group (as opposed to a local admin group)?

The reason I ask is that the only problem I can see with this situation is if there is some confusion between domain and local accounts/groups.

Later ...

Yeah, he is a Member of the Aministrators group as well as the Domain Admins group. He is Logging onto the Domain and not to the local computer. His account appears exactly the same as mine in AD but he cannot seem to get access.

I just tried on a Win2000 machine and it works just fine...just not on any XP machine except the ope he was using before.

Ok....I appologize to anyone who reads this....the problem has vanished...I have no idea why, I haven't done anything. Thanks for trying to help.
