I'm having trouble booting into NT I get to the blue screen where shows the amount of memory service pack and processors but after that the screen just goes blank. I know it probably has something to do with one of my startup files NTLDR or NTDetect.com or something but I haven't been able to figure out the approach I should take in fixing this problem. I failed to make a emergency repair disk before this happened so I can't run a repair disk my last option is just to start the setup again and install NT on top of the corrupted directory and start all over. I still have most of my programs on my D:\ partition so I won't lose much, but if anyone has a better method of way of fixing this type of problem please respond. Thanks

You will not see the blue startup screen until NTDETECT.COM has passed control over to NTOSKRNLL.EXE, so I believe your startup files may be OK. You can verify this by copying NTLDR, NTDETRECT.COM, and a compatible BOOT.INI onto a floppy disk, and booting from it. If this works, great! More than likely however, it won't.

Try taking the hard disk out and slaving it up to another NT machine, and running some diags from there. You would at least be able to recover some data.

You still have the data to make a ERD disk in the repair directory. First go to another NT Server, make a bootable floppy by copying NTLDR.com, BOOT.ini and NTDETECT.com. Boot the Server, then copy the content of the repair directory to a floppy. This will be your ERD disk.

Once you have this insert the NT setup disks until it ask for the repair disk. Good Luck.
