After trying to change CPU's on my PC I had a pretty hard time getting off the heatsink and fan. However, after I had managed it and changed the CPU my PC would not boot up properly (it also would'nt boot with the old CPU in either). The symptoms are:
It turns on ok
All the fans start turning
There is activity in the hard drives
However the monitor does not come on
I tried a different (pretty old)Graphics Card in case it was problem, but that brought no joy.
Also it does'nt turn off or reset (the only way to turn off is by pulling the lead out of the back), or read a floppy disk, so this leads me to think it may not be the Graphics card.
The monitor works ok with my other system so its probably not that to). Plus the heatsink/fan is well up to the job (plus i tried a different one).
I've checked that all the leads are in the right place, unplugged the power for a few minutes, but still no luck
Does anyone know what may be causing this?
Perhaps both CPU's are damaged, (the CPU I was trying to put in was pretty old, and I had never tried it before), the motherboard, or the ram?
Any suggestions much appreciated
