Been trying to install a PC-133 512mg ram chip in my system (WinXP Pro, P3-866). I checked my mobo stats and it will take the 512mg chip.. two of them if I want.

However, once I install it and boot up, I get an error message about a missing or corrupted driver: System32/drivers/pci.sys.

Take the 512 chip out and put the 256 back in and away it goes.

Has anyone else ran across this??

Try swapping out RAM (even if it tests good) for a single 512 high-quality chip. XP appears to be sensitive to
memory timing. (emphasis high-quality)

Errors of that nature may be attributable to defective write caching.
Try turning that off for the hard drive: Right-click the drive letter, choose PROPERTIES|HARDWARE|PROPERTIES|POLICIES tab. The choice may not be available.

describes a three-step process to extract a copy of the registry
from the System Restore SVI folder.
