Hi all,
I put together a new computer that consists of
Gigabyte GA-7DXR Athlon 1.4 Ghz 512MB DDR and Asus Geforce2 Ultra

My problem is when I turn on my computer the majority of the time it powers up, but it doesnt go anywhere, that is it just stays at a black screen. When it does start up everything seems to run fine as long as I dont reboot or shut down, because I will face the same problem. I've tried both Windows 98 and XP, but I still get the same problem.
Any suggestions as to what the problem maybe and how to fix it?
Thank you

Try keyboard reboot a couple of times, then reset key reboot.
Can be processor, memory, power supply, and possibly video.
Will be a matter of trying stuff till it is fixed.
Keyboard reboot and reset key are to check the power good signal, which if it is slow coming up will create this. Ed Fair

Sounds like you've got IRQ problems to me, check your BIOS and make sure plug and play is enabled and if your MOBO has a "Reset Configuration Data" selection select it. You can also do this:
Remove all cards except for the Video card and boot the pc and then shut down do this a couple of times both cold and warm boots and see if the problem goes away...if it does you know your having an IRQ alocation problem. Re-insert one card at a time and re-check operation. Hope that helps.
