Hi guys

I was running my dell 8100 normally yesterday and after offing it, i rebooted the next morning. When i did, the area near my floppy drive made this load clicking noise (like a clock) and the floppy drive was busy even though there wasnt anything in it. After that it says, "strike f1 to retry boot or f2 for setup utility"

Can you give me any tips how to fix it thru set up or something.?

thanks alot

Hit f12 at startup and change the boot order to hard disk first instead of floppy.

There may be an issue with the floppy drive, or the the rear option connector. (or there may be a floppy in the floppy drive).

thanks for ur help guys! under boot sequence it just says diskette drive tho? wut does that mean?

thanks alot!!!

It offers no other choices in the BIOS other than the diskette drive for a boot device?

It means that it no longer recognizes your hard disk drive, or CD ROM device.

You need to:

. the BIOS should have an option to 'Reset to defaults', try that first

. if no joy, check what happened to make your hard disk disappear in BIOS. Cable, fundamental failure of the HD device, something.

hey, i'm in the bios, but there is no option to restore default stuff.

It will sometime be called Restore Default Settings, or Failsafe Settings, or Default Values, Or Optimum Settings or something else. If should be something obvious to inform you that it will restore the settings. Failing that there should be a jumper on your Motherboard that will reset the CMOS. You will have to have a look at your motherboards manual or search google as it will be different from one board to another.
