When i open up any .xls file, it opens up in one window. However, in another window - book1 file also opens up.

I believe book1 is the defualt file name for a new file but i don't want it to open up! I am sure there is some option i can select somewhere but can't find it.

thx in advance!

Hi paultaylor04,

This is a guess but do you have an old version of Acrobat installed? If I remember correctly, they used to impose this in a startup macro.

Enjoy,
Tony

How is adobe acrobat in any way related to Office Excel?

Hi Paul,

If Acrobat is installed after Office, by default it sets itself up to hook into the various Office apps. Have a look in your startup folder and see what automatically loads when you fire up Excel. I'm not saying for sure it is the cause of your problem and it isn't a problem with the latest version of Acrobat - I just seem to remember it being a problem in the past so if you have an older version it may be the cause.

Enjoy,
Tony

Is there an .xls document in your XLStart folder? If so, move it and see if that solves the problem.

For a default installation, the path in Windows 2000 would be...

C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLStart\

Nothing found in that location xlstart

I do have acrobat 5.5 installed. Any solution to this problem though if you think acrobat is the culprit?
