We have an interface from Excel which writes records to the BMRDSTR_SQL table. This has been running for months with no errors. However we just discovered that we are improperly populating the alt_item_no field. This field is being set equal to the comp_item_no when it appears it should be equal to the item_no field.

So this begs the question: what repercussions, if any, are there from having this field mispopulated? For that matter, what is the alt_item_no field used for?

It is easy to fix the data -- in fact this was already done with a sql script -- but I was curious if anyone knows the purpose for this field.

I use v7.5.103d

When you enter a new Bill via Macola, this field populates with the Parent item number by default. The bTrieve field name is ALT_PARENT_ITEM_NO. Don't know where or if Macola even uses it, but is probably is somewhere.

Pardon my last phrase. I meant to say they're probably using it somewhere or will in the future. The field is not shown on the default screen.

Don,

Here's your answer.

This column stores the same parent item number as bmprdstr_sql.item_no field. This column is used as part of the Component Item Number key that allows a user to conduct a Where Used View. This allows the user to view all parent items that use a particular component
