My bluetooth headset is listed as an audio device in my bluetooth devices. But I can't get any audio to output to the device. The sound always goes to the speakers. How can I direct the sound output to the wireless headset?

Right-click on the Volume Icon in the Notification Area. Select Recording Devices or Playback Devices. In that resulting window right-click on the listed devices and also on a blank area to show more devices (Disabled Devices etc.), and play with the available options to configure your sound.

Make sure you are selecting the correct device for Bluetooth, it might be just a matter of selecting the Headphones?

This is my problem. I do not have the device listed here. The only place it is listed is on the Bluetooth Devices. Showing Disabled Devices does not change the devices listed.

Do non-Bluetooth headphones work on that machine?

Was any Pairing successful, are the batteries fully charged?

Do you have any Bluetooth devices listed in the Sound Properties at all?

Are there any driver updates for your Sound Card or Bluetooth Device? Is there ant mention of Bluetooth or On-Board Sound in the Bios that you can check out? Is there any Bios update available?

What are the make and model details of this Bluetooth device?

Check out the Event Viewer, see if there is anything in there.

Regular headphones work just fine on this machine. So does a regular microphone. The bluetooth headset works on my cell phone. I am able to pair my cell phone with the laptop and do sync functions and read and transfer files using the bluetooth function between the cell phone and the laptop.

The batteries are fully charged and I have downloaded the latest drivers for the sound card.

My Bluetooth window shows two pieces of Hardware in the Hardware tab:
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator ... This device is working properly
Broadband Bluetooth 2.0+EDR USB dongle... This device is working properly
The Device tab shows three different cell phone devices and one audio device. The audio device is listed as SKYWING passkey enabled. The services tab of the skywing lists:
Audio Sink
Handsfree Telephony
Headset
Remote Control

The event viewer does show warnings and errors. The errors are Explorer.exe and Excel.exe failed to load. The warnings state that the registry was in use by another program. I am not that familiar with the event viewer and its functions.

The dongle is made by Targus

Are there any options (right-clicks etc.) that are available in the your Bluetooth Device?

You may have to contact the manufacturer to see if they can help.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Bluetooth devices and drivers. What about uninstalling all the Sound Video and Game Controller devices in Device Manager, rebooting, and letting Windows rediscover them?

You could try the System File Checker program.

How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program generates in Windows Vista

I have resolved the issue. The problem was with a faulty tongle. The Targus dongle was replaced with a new dongle and then the drivers were updated and everything worked like clock work. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the feedback.
