Having display problems on Compaq server running NT Server 4.0 sp4. Thought to be video card or driver problem as monitor is fine. Server configured with integrated video card. Reinstalled driver from original install CD. Upon reboot – blue screen STOP ERROR 0x0000000050. Compaq advised this is a memory error code. Reseated all memory modules and rebooted to same STOP ERROR. Extracted expansion card with one pair of RAM sticks and rebooted to STOP ERROR 0x00000001E. Updated Firmware, running hardware diagnostics now – Anyone have any ideas or advice? Any input helpful – thanks.

Have you tried booting NT in [VGA Mode]? [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Yes - to which I received the same blue screen STOP ERROR 0x00000050 or 0x0000001E. Also tried using the last known good configuration, to no avail. Might this have something to do with the BIOS and me installing the drivers that I did – even though it shouldn’t because they are the same drivers previously installed? Might make more sense to think this if they were updated drivers. Just seems odd that as soon as I install these drivers I get this mess.

Thanks dhawthorn - you always seem to be there with options or clues. Keep 'em coming - they're much appreciated!

What is the exact error message below the STOP message?

If [VGA Mode] doesn't work, then it sounds like Compaq may be right about it being a memory (or at least a hardware) problem, only it won't be the physical RAM but the video cards memory...

If you can, I'd try replacing the video card with another one. Although if it's built into the motherboard, you clearly won't be able to replace it so easily. [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Compaq tells me that if it turns out to be a hardware problem (ie. integrated display device / video component) then I will need a processor board without the processor, since the video card is integrated with the "mother board". The processors are separate boards that slot into the "mother board" and can be easily removed. Think this component (ie. integrated display device / video component) might be the problem? Hopefully, my hardware diagnostics will tell me this...

UPDATE
Ended up doing a parallel install and copying system32 directory from parallel install to system32 directory of original install after applying service packs and updating IE files in parallel install to match original install. Worked like a charm. Major ‘backdoor’ to NT security though!
