Good Morning,
Before I tell the powers that be to scrap their 800 number get a new one and give it to only the people they want to have it I thought I would ask you their ? first. I have a division that would like to block all states from calling their 800 number EXCEPT for 4 states. They want the rest to use their local toll number. Has anyone had to do something like this before? Go ahead and laugh... I am, but I just can't see this as plausible but maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks,
Tina

Area code blocking is normally done by the carrier that provides your 8xx numbers. There is usually a 1 time cost to set it up, and sometimes there is a monthly fee. Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

We have a toll-free number that our LEC (SouthWest Bell) blocks from being dialed from within our local area code.

O.k. I didn't know they could block from local area thanks for that tip. I will call the 800 provider and see if this is possible.
Thanks to both!

The only problem with using vectoring is that the call has been delivered to your PBX, so you are still going to pay for the call. If the provider blocks the call, then it's never delivered to you and you don't pay for the call.
