I used to be able to update my Win98 from the MS Windows update site with no problem. Recently, I was given MS Office 2000 CDs from my work to load on my home PC so I could do work at home. I am told this is all properly licenced. I loaded Office 2000 on my home PC and it works fine, so I returned the disks. But now if I try to visit the Windows update site for an update, I can't get in. I get a message that says something like "Your organization has decided to do these updates manually. Please see your network administrator." I can only assume that when I loaded Office 2000, something was done to my home PC to make the MS website think my home PC is a PC belonging to my company. Perhaps a registry change? Neither my company nor MS has been any help to me. Is there any way I can resume windows updates without unistalling Office 2000? I'd hate to lose it. Plus, I'm not even sure the problem will go away even if I do uninstall it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!!

SYMPTOMS
When you try to access the Windows Update page, you may receive the following message:
"Your organization has decided to provide software updates internally rather than through Windows Update. To download updates for your Windows computer, please see your Network Administrator."
This occurs even if you you are not on a corporate network and you are accessing the Internet directly through an Internet Service Provider.
CAUSE
This error can occur if the WUPDINFO.DLL is missing or corrupted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the issue, extract the WUPDINFO.DLL from the Windows CD-ROM and then register the DLL file.
To Extract WUPDINFO.DLL
Windows 98
Click Start, then click Run, and type SFC to open the System File Checker.
Click "Extract one file from installation disk." Type WUPDINFO.DLL and then click the Start button.
Under the Extract File screen, ensure that the "Restore From" path indicates the path to the WIN98 folder on the Windows 98 CD-ROM. Ensure that the "Save file in" path is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Note: This assumes that Windows 98 is installed on C:\WINDOWS folder.
Click OK to extract the file.
To register the DLL file
Click Start, then click Run. Type REGSVR32 WUPDINFO.DLL and then click OK. You will see a message that indicates if the DLL file has successfully registered. Click OK.
Restart the computer.

Thanks! Actually, the problem turned out to be a lot simpler. My IE browser security was set to block ActiveX controls not designated as "safe." I guess the ActiveX on the Windows Update site is not so designated, because when I set security to allow all ActiveX contols, Update works fine. Oh well. Thanks again for the help though! -R
