We have a few users that only need to communicate via E-mail to internal users, using Outlook 2000 with an Exchange 2000 server/W2k server. Active Directory has a way to block incoming mail and only allow from specified users, but I don't see a way to block the outgoing stuff. The firewall is NATing everything, so I don't think I can set up a firewall service to block based on IP or computer/user becuase the Exchange server is the one sending/receiving mail (obviously).

Thanks for your help!

Create a DL for all these people, then add that group to the restrictions on the IMS. Then you can just add new people to this group when applicable.

Sorry, I'm a little inexperienced and am not sure what you mean by DL and IMS. Can you explain those briefly?

Thanks,

Shawn

DL is a Distribution List (email group). You can set them up in Exchange and add members to them. The IMS is INTERNET MAIL SERVICE. All outbound SMTP mail will be processed by an IMS connector somewhere within your exchange organisation.

On that connector object, in Exchange, there will be properties whereby you can restrict who is allowed to pass email via that connector. If you add a DL to those restrictions, someone who is a member of that DL, will not be allowed and the connector will not process their email.

Hope this helps and I'm not trying to be patronising, but you should get some help before making changes of this nature, as I know from experience that it can (and usually does) go very wrong if you're not sure what you are doing.

Hello,

Thanks for the help. I was planning on getting some assistance for this as I know what my limits are as far as what I can/cannot do. I will be mentioning this as a possible option for our scenario.

Thanks!
