The Doubt is regarding blank pages appearing when Subreports are used .
We have a report that consists of an amount column which can be a credit amount or a debit amount. Now, We need to group all the details of debit accounts together under heading "Cash reciepts" and group all the credit accounts together under "Disbursements" .This has been done by inserting 2 subreports "CashReciepts" and "Disbursements", under a main report (-which consists of common page header and the two subreports in two details sections). Each of the subreport in turn consists of the details sections along with the group headers and footers.
The subreports have been created from the main report ( by choosing the second radio button in the "Insert Subreport" menu.
In each of the subreport the check for a credit or debit account is made at the " select expert" , with the amount field greater than zero or less than zero accordingly.

The report that is being generated has data grouped as required but has a blank page at the beginning of each of the subreport ie., the details of cashreciepts subreport start from page 2 and the details of disbursements start after a blank page that is present at the end of cashreciepts subreport.
What is the possible reason for this and how do we go about to eleminate this condition?

Which version of Crystal are you using? In Crystal 8.5, you can right-click and select [Format Subreport]. If [Keep Object Together] has been selected, then it will always start a new page if it cannot print the whole of the subreport on the current page.

Is this the problem? If not, please explain again what it is you're after.

We are using 9.0.

We are looking for a option to supress the blank page that is coming before each subreports when the report is being generated.

If you need any more info, do let me know.

is the blank page generated by the Subreport or the main report????

The blank page is generated by the Main Report.

Hi..

It may be due to the keep together property of the SubReports. Select the subreport and right click. Turn off the Keep Together property.

Also check that you havent inserted any page breaks accidentally.

you wouldn't have "New Page Before" enabled on the section containing the subreport, would you?

Is it an absolutely blank page?

Does the subreport take up more than one page?

Is the "Keep Together" enabled for the SubReport object?
What about the "Keep Together" on the report section containing the SubReport...is it enabled?

1. You wouldn't have "New Page Before" enabled on the section containing the subreport, would you?

Ans: No, "New Page Before" is not enabled.

2. Is it an absolutely blank page?

Ans: No, it shows the main report header.

3. Does the subreport take up more than one page?

Ans: Yes, it does.

4. Is the "Keep Together" enabled for the SubReport object?

Ans: It was enabled, but we did removed it and checked, there was no change.

5. What about the "Keep Together" on the report section containing the SubReport...is it enabled?

So....it is not a completely blank page then that is important.

When a section or a subreport exceeds a page and there is a "Keep Together" enabled, Crystal has the annoying habit of first moving to a new page and then starting the printing of the section/subreport...even though It cannot do it all on one page.

there are many "Keep Togethers" that can cause this to happen so you must eliminate them all.

1. "Keep Together" for a field
2. "Keep Together" for a section
3. "Keep Together" for a subreport
4. "Keep Together" for a Group

Eliminate them all for both the main report AND subreport. You might be able to solve your problem this way.

Hi,

Still not working.

Tried all the possible ways.

Please let me know, how do you guys use sub-reports???

Subendu

This is not a particularily subreport type problem....the problem is that you have a section of a report that is greater than one page long

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I tried again doing all, as well as making sure that I supress all unused sections, it is working now.

Again, thanks a lot.
