Hi all,

My parents computer just seems to have gone kaput! It was knocked very slighty and the thing just went off. When turned back on the monitor is completely blank and the computer doesn't even start to load up. The monitor is working fine and power is getting to the PC (the lights are on and the fan is whirring) but nothing else happens.

The power cable was slightly loose so i'm wondering whether something has shorted. Is it likely to be the HDD?? At the moment we can't do anything at all with it. Any help or comments would be most appreciated.

Cheers

do you get post boot on screen? if yes then it could be windows errors. if you dont get post boot then it could be the graphics card. check that all cables are plugged in properly.
quick test - try monitor on another pc it possible and try another monitor on this pc also.

Which power cable? You mean the one from the wall to the case?
And, as xentraz said, can you see anything on the screen?

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

Is it possible a card may have popped out of it's socket?

Are there any post up beeps?? Check that the memory is seated good. check that any add in boards are seated properly.
