Hello,

everytime i start win2000 the first time a day , my monitor gets black, but the computer runs, i can hear the heat sinks, hdd, cdroms and so on. I push the reset button, then, after the startup-procedure and scandisk, it works perfectly.
My configuration is:
W2K
Eagletec M810LMR
Duron 1200
384 Meg Ram
Geforce 4 MX440
HD 20 gig
CD-Rom
CD-RW
300W Power Supply

may it be a problem of Memory?

prof, i had a similar problem with my w2k box when i first installed it. i reinstalled and reinstalled did i everything i could think of to no avail. come to find out it was my video card. i uninstalled it completely from the board blew out the connection and reseated it, have had absolutely no problems since then. I dont know if this was just coincidence or what, but it worked for me. you might give it a try. good luck everyday you learn something new, the day you dont is the day you die....so make someone live longer teach them something.......MUTT

There are some video cards that need the monitor on before you start otherwise you get a black screen. I think this is whats happening here.

So, turn on the monitor first - or leave it on standby from the last session, then see what happens when you start it up next time.

My kids have a duron 800 based PC each and both PCs are black unless the monitor is on first!! Tez

Backups are great but checking if you can restore is more fun.
