how to connect a remote computer to a LAN server w/o using using an ISP? all i got is a dialup modem.

Things to remember about putting modems on LAN's...

Most modems are very unsecure....

Sniffers can easily gather information from unencrypted modems...

Like any TCP network sniffers are usually the best method to see any traffic, especially dialup.

You can however use PGP or another means of encrypting sensative information.

Some connection specific details are required, but there are tel. adapters you can connect to encrypt communications on the line. Both ends would require this.

But like any encryption means, its not secure unless
you fill a safe with cement, put the server in the cement and drop it in the middle of the deepest ocean ;-)

If someones dedicated, they'll get whatever it is you have. Regardless. But, hey you can try.

If you have firewall, so install RAS (remote access server)
in the DMZ. User can dial to RAS and reach the internal Lan in a controlled manner.

That method is even not secure as well. Since the user can still spoof IP to access the DMZ.

Although I do the same thing on my Win2k3 server to provide RAS (VPN) accounts for users and have had '0' issues with that. Using IPSec, I've made sure anything unnecessary doesnt get through and I think its a great inexpensive firewall that works.

Thought Id add my two cents :)
