A friend of mine has installed a secondhand mobo[gigabyte]with the existing hdd. When it boots up a message--scan bios info error--sorry we do not support this mobo comes up.When going into system it does not show the cd rom or the hard drive--or the controllers--or the mouse- keyboard etc.Thought it may be a problem with the info on the hard drive not being compatible--so used a 98 boot disk to format the hard drive--but could not access the cd rom.Has anybody seen this problem before--and can anyone help please

Unless the bootdisk loads cdrom Dos drivers, you will not be able to it. If you look for a reference to MSCDEX.exe in autoexec.bat, make sure it does have a REM statement, there will also need to be a reference to the driver in config.sys.

Assuming it does load support, was the cdrom on a different IDE channel on the original board, and if so, have you changed the jumper to set it for slave or master, whichever is appropriate?

Hope this helps

Thanx Paulwood.Got the problem solved.Stuck in a spare hard drive with o/s.Booted up a treat .Made the original hdd as slave--formatted--loaded o/s --made it the master again[after taking the other hdd out]--and everything is fine
