I need to erase the bios password on my computer. I need to know where to put the jumper or what kind of jumper to put on to do this.
I have a IBM 2170
model number - 140
serial number - AM7XY9A
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the manual look there if not try searching IBM's site for info. Failing these remove the battery for a few minutes and then reinsert. If it doesn't work the first time you might try turning it on while the battery is out and the computer is unplugged as this will drain ant residual power stored in the system.

no sorry didn't work, i need to know where to place the jumper

The only thing I can find refers to JP4 [password required]

Once you have the computer started, you should be able to search for one of the many bios password revealers that are available.

another possibility is one of the password overrides that are built in to some bioses.
Try these as passwords:
AMI Award bios:AMI_SW (case sensitive) AMI!SW/ AMI?SW/ Award BIOS: AWARD_SW (case sensitive) ,j262.

check to see if theres a red jumper if so place it between the center pin a pin next to it that is not currently doing anything but make sure your power is OFF and your battery is in place after 2 seconds replace to orginal postion and that should sort it :)
