my computer at the first time has a password for enter the bios and to enter the computer. by accident i change the password and forgot the password. now i cannot enter the bios to disabled the password and i cannot enter my computer. how to reset the password to disabled?

There used to be a jumper on the board to do this.
You should have a look at your motherboard's manual. If you don't have it, try to find it on the Web or tell us the manufacturer and model so anyone who has the same one can help you.

Pull out the CMOS battery for a minute and put it back in.

I've seen systems that could go for up to 30 mins without the battery. I've found the quickest way if you don't know what jumpers to use (or if the !@#$%%^ board doesnt' have pins soddered to the contacts like my ASUS A7M266-D) is to remove the battery and then touch a pair of pliers to the 2 contacts that the battery uses. That will short out whatever charge is left in the system and instantly reset the bios.

Please not that when you do this, the bios will revert to default settings everywhere, so you will have to make any changes that had been made before (ie configuring HDD manually, changing boot order, numlock on, power management settings, etc)

Also, be sure to ground yourself before doing then and UNPLUG THE COMPUTER

Right, crisc, if it's an older board. However, with newer boards and Flash memory rather than an OTP ROM and an SRAM, the battery only powers the real-time clock. Yanking the battery would have no effect on the password on such a board.

I have the exact same problem codo, I also need to find if there is an overall password for it. I have an 1.4 ghz amd athlon t-bird, could someone tell me where i could get that jumper or send me the main password at goat199@mstar2.net

Thanks please help me

Some laptops are almost impossible to break into the BIOS if it has a password applied. Ive heard some BIOS have a different master password every day of the year, and you have to call the company if you want to change anything. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

my motherboard type is Asus P155T2P4C and i couldn't found the CMOS battery.

sometimes the cmos battery is integrated into the RTC chip. A common one is the black retangular Dallas make.

Actually, there is 2 circular connectors, basically round peices of solder on the motherboard. when you connect these using a wire or other conductive implement, it will short - and cause the CMOS to clear. Many modern motherboards have this feature. If it does not, then check the motherboards manual - as we do not know the actual motherboard make / model, nor do we most likely have experience with it - it is a very hard technnical aspect to diagnose.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at this document: ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock7/430hx/p55t2p4/p55t2p4-311.pdf

This is the manual of the ASUS P55T2P4 motherboard. Is it the same as yours?
On page 8, you can find the explanation (how to clear the CMOS RAM using JP7).

The steps to follow are:
1. Turn off the PC.
2. Short this jumper.
3. Power on the PC.
4. Turn off the PC.
5. Remove the jumper.
6. Power on the PC.
7. Hold down <Delete> and enter BIOS setup to re-enter user preferences.

On this motherboard, the jumper is JP7 and it is located near the ISA slots.
